Annual tournament brings basketball to historic square
NELSONVILLE — The downtown square of Nelsonville was transformed this past weekend into an action-packed basketball arena creating a unique juxtaposition of modern athletics in a historic setting. The atmosphere was not lost on competitors and spectators who visited for the fifth annual Gus Macker 3-on-3 basketball tournament.
“Everyone is friendly here,” said Sam Bynum, 30, of Xenia. “There’s good competition in this town. There’s not a lot to do here but it’s cool to hang out here for a little while. It‘s a cool little town,” added teammate Jason Alexander, 31, also of Xenia.
Bynum, Alexander and Robert Bynum, 32, of Xenia, are part of Team X and have played in each of Nelsonville’s Gus Macker tournaments. This year, they also brought along Jason Fister, 30, of Xenia. Sam Bynum said that after the first year of playing in Nelsonville, the team liked it so much that they decided they’d make the drive from the Dayton area every year.

Game 5 of the Miami Heat, Indiana Pacers playoff series is tonight at 8 p.m. on TNT. The series is tied at 2 games apiece, with Miami coming off a Game 4 victory in which their backs were against the wall, having dropped two games prior to their victory. With home court advantage back in their pocket Miami looks to take a 3-2 lead heading into Game 6 at Indiana. I believe the winner of this game will win the series. Final Score: Miami 96 Pacers 88, LeBron will put up the stats as usual tonight, he is most likely going to have a double double. I will go as far to say he will put up 35 points, 12 boards, and 8 assists. Wade will have at least 25 tonight, and Miami will need someone on their roster to contribute offensively somehow, whether it is Mario Chalmers, Shane Battier, or Udonis Haslem. The Pacers will need to play team ball as they have been doing this series but they have to take full advantage of the opportunities they have throughout the game, meaning scoring off Miami turnovers and mistakes. Roy Hibbert will be key in this game, he has to stay out of foul trouble so that he can play valid minutes and protect the rim and the paint from Wade and LeBron. His defensive presence alters the attack mode of the Heat. If the Pacers can make this game a struggle for Miami they could have a shot of pulling off another victory in Miami.
